DARRYL L. THOBE, age 62,
of New Knoxville, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 7:16 P.M. at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born on July 10, 1963, in St. Marys, the son of the late Arthur J. and Jeanette P. (Rutschilling) Thobe. He is survived by his siblings: Patricia (Bob) Harrod of Wapakoneta, Dean (Becky) Thobe of Sidney, Keith Thobe (Sharon Quigley) of New Knoxville, Craig (Shelly) Thobe St. Marys, and Chad (Beth) Thobe of New Bremen, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews that were more like his own children. Along with his parents, Darryl was also preceded in death by his siblings: Kevin Thobe, Deborah Thobe, and Mark Thobe, and a niece Hope Thobe.
Darryl was a 1982 graduate of New Knoxville Schools and remained a loyal supporter of the New Knoxville athletics his whole life, even coaching the cross country and track teams for a number of years. He was a loyal and dedicated member of the New Knoxville community, known for walking around town and talking with everyone. He was a long-time member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Botkins where he was baptized and confirmed. Darryl was an extremely active person, running numerous marathons and also enjoyed long bike rides, and working out at the YMCA. He created a special relationship with each of his nieces and nephews, loving to spend time with them, spoil them with ice cream, and support them in all of their various activities. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends as a SAL member at the New Knoxville Legion enjoying a cold draft beer, cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. He had worked at Hoge Lumber in New Knoxville for many years, first building trusses and later as a delivery driver, and in recent years, worked at Wagner's IGA in Minster as a carryout. Darryl will always be remembered for his love of 80's rock music, his unique sense of humor, and for carrying around his orange TicTacs.
